Research has found that there are four main domains of values underlying ethical decision-making:

  1. Codes of professional conduct GMC, NMC, NICE guidelines

  2. Regulations

  3. Ethical principles

  4. Values-the expectations, feelings or ideologies of the patient, health professionals and other key stakeholders.
